Chairman of the Central Election Commission met with Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran

On February 8, 2018 Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman, met with Javad Jahangirzadeh, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan.

Having greeted the visitor, Chairman Mr. Mazahir Panahov expressed his gratitude of the meeting.

Ambassador Javad Jahangirzadeh thanked for the warm welcome, underlined the close cooperation between the two countries, developing every day. Noting that elections are always followed with great interest, he inquired about our country’s electoral system, the works undertaken for the current development of the election system and preparations for the presidential elections of Azerbaijan Republic, to be held this year.

Mr. Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman replied to the questions of the Iranian diplomat, stated that CEC was always open to co-operation with international and foreign organizations, and these relations were important in the achievements and best practices. CEC Chairman also underlined an inclusive atmosphere existing in Azerbaijan to organize free, fair and transparent elections, spoke about the large-scale projects envisaged for the implementation of the country's electoral legislation, the activity principles of election commissions and the effective exercise of the electoral rights of citizens in the presidential elections.

At the session they shared opinions on the issues of mutual interest.
