Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted a session on July 27, 2016

The Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted a session chaired by Mr.Mazahir Panahov on July 27, 2016. Firstly, CEC Chairman made the Commission members familiar with the Order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the conduct of nationwide voting (referendum) to make changes to the Constitution of the republic and informed that referendum is appointed to September 26, 2016 by the Order of President.

Later, Calendar Plan for the basic activities and measures on the preparation and conduct of
nationwide voting (referendum) on September 26, 2016 was approved upon discussion with the aim of subsequent and effective implementation of the steps implied in legislation, rendering methodical assistance to referendum stakeholders and simplifying their activity in the referendum process.

During the session the issue on the establishment of an expert group under CEC was also considered for full investigation of the complaints against the actions (inactions) violating the election right and effective implementation of citizens’ rights to participate in referendum. By the decision of the Commission, expert group of 9 persons was established under CEC to function during the conduct of referendum. The Constituency Election Commissions were commissioned with the establishment of expert groups of 3 persons under Con.ECs no later than the period defined by law.

At the CEC session working group of specialists from the relevant state bodies was established to check the accuracy of the information included in signature sheets and the attachment documents submitted for the registration of referendum campaign group in
nationwide voting (referendum) and a Commission member was appointed a head of the working group.

Current issues were also considered at the session attended by the representatives of international organizations and mass media.
