Municipal Elections are declared open in Azerbaijan

5,015 polling stations are open for the Municipal Elections in Azerbaijan.

According to AzerTac, Mr.Mazahir Panahov,
CEC Chairman informed on declaring the Municipal elections open in the Republic of Azerbaijan in the press conference on December 23, 2014.

CEC Chairman informed that the elections started at 08.00 and stated that 37,077 candidates to 15, 035 municipality memberships of 1607 municipalities were running in the elections. 4, 819382 voters will vote whose entries have been included in voters’ lists. The citizens who could not find their names in the voters’ lists may vote upon submission of their ID cards. 13,907 of the candidates have been nominated by 8 political parties, 23,061 on their own initiatives and 109 by initiative groups. 18,284 of the candidates joining elections are independent. Totally, there are representatives of 30 political parties among candidates. 2.5 persons compete for one municipality membership.

Webcams have been installed in 1000 polling stations on 118 election constituencies in the country, which constituted 20% of the polling stations. Monitoring of the voting process in those polling stations is available from any part of the world. In general, the number of the observers registered in these elections has exceeded 50 thousand. More than 26 thousand of them are representatives of political parties.

"CEC has formed every opportunity to conduct transparent elections. The information on voter turnout will be publicized at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00, 17.00 and 19.00 within the day. I call all voters to exercise their constitutional rights inviting them to polling stations”, - Mr.Panahov informed that the polling stations would be closed at 19.00.
