All polling stations provided with equipment meeting international standards
Baku, October 8. Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov met with the members of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly observation mission, which is in Azerbaijan to monitor the October 9 presidential elections, the Independent Press Center said.
The CEC Chairman briefed the delegation on the preparations for the presidential elections, saying all the polling stations have been provided with modern equipment meeting international standards. According to him, unlike previous years, this year`s elections will see some measures to involve the disabled people who cannot see or move. Thus, to ensure their voting rights, the polling stations were equipped with ramps. Braille ballots for the visually impaired persons have been prepared.
Panahov said, "Preparations for the elections have been perfect. International observers told us about it during the meetings with us. We believe that we will successfully complete the final stage of the elections.”
Member of the delegation Oleg Lebedev noted that the members of the CIS PA long-term observation mission visited the capital city and regions of Azerbaijan. He pointed out that the mission had already prepared the interim report. Today, 7 more short-term observers from the CIS member states have arrived in Azerbaijan. They will also make a trip to Baku and regions to watch the voting process. Lebedev expressed confidence that the elections would end up successfully.
