A number of important steps being taken to improve election system
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan is taking a number of important steps to improve election system and ensure democratic, transparent, free and fair conduct of elections in our country. The CEC is also using innovations in the Information Communication Technologies to the maximum degree.
Director of CEC’s Information Center Rufat Gulmammadov told the Independent Press Center that installation of web-cameras at the polling stations is one of the examples of technology usage.
He also mentioned that the state expressed a political will to apply web cameras in Azerbaijan for the first time in 2008 and an appropriate decision was made. This method, web cameras installation, is applied to follow the voting process via internet in Azerbaijan and highly praised by foreign experts. Some countries have already used such practice of Azerbaijan.
According to the CEC representative, web cameras have been installed in 1000 (thousand) polling stations of 119 constituencies across the whole country except for 6 polling stations that must have been located in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan. There are being tested and examined now.
The web cameras’ area of coverage is wide.
Some countries require registration for getting permission to follow the voting process through web cameras. There are no restrictions in Azerbaijan in this regard. Any citizens will be able to follow the voting process online by accessing the websites of the CEC (cec.gov.az), Seckilər Information Center (infocenter.gov.az), CEC’s respective electronic services on the e-government portal (e-gov.az).
Unlike previous years it will also be possible to follow the voting process via smartphone mobile devices.
