Press Council hails activity of Independent Press Center

Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov and heads of the country`s leading media outlets visited the Independent Press Center on October 5.

The visitors toured the facilities here and inquired about conditions created for local and foreign journalists here, the Independent Press Center reported.

Chief of the Central Election Commission`s Secretariat Rovzat Gasimov briefed the visitors that the center had been created to provide comprehensive, prompt and objective media coverage of the October 9 presidential elections in Azerbaijan and ensure transparency of the elections. The center has started its operations on October 2.

The Independent Press Center has been fitted with the equipment meeting the highest standards. Every condition has been created here to work for journalists, international and local observers.

The Center is open for holding news conferences and making statements. The candidates may present here their brochures and information materials.

Center`s coordinator Elshad Farzaliyev said the facility works from 9:00 a.m. till late hours in the evening. Foreign and local journalists can easily send the information about elections to their media agencies.

Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov said that establishment of such a center is important for comprehensive, prompt and objective coverage of elections and ensuring transparency of elections.

Members of the Press Council`s Board examined conditions created here. They praised normal working conditions created here and provision of the center with the necessary equipment and high-speed internet. The board members expressed confidence that journalists will make use of these opportunities to spread objective, true and impartial information about elections.

Then, the members of the Press Council`s Board shared their views on the center with the editors-in-chief of some newspapers.
