Expert Group of CIS Parliamentary Assembly met with Chairman of Central Election Commission

Expert Group of Parliamentary Assembly of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS PA) on long-term observation of Presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan met with Mr. Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of Central Election Commission on 4 September, 2013.

Chairman greeted the visitors and emphasized the importance of observation institute in the light of ensuring transparency in elections and expressed his appreciation for long-term observers of CIS Parliamentary Assembly to observe the upcoming elections.

Head of the Group, Director of the International Institute of Monitoring Democracy, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage for the IPA CIS Member Nations Dmitriy Gladey informed that the group led by him consisted of prominent experts from 7 CIS countries. The goal of the group is to familiarize with the preparation for the Presidential elections in Azerbaijan and to prepare report on the observation results. The experts have already visited Ganja, Samukh and Shamkir regions and made themselves familiar with the activity of Precinct Election Commissions, took great interest in the state of election preparation. The head of the group informed on the next trips to Lankaran, Lerik and Astara regions.

With the request of the visitors, CEC Chairman informed on the measures undertaken related to the election preparations and on the projects scheduled to be implemented.

Views were exchanged on the cooperation in the organization of election observation of the upcoming elections at the meeting.
