Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan (CEC) conducted its session headed by Mr. Mazahir Panahov on June 7, 2006.
Firstly, CEC Chairman submitted deputy cards to the persons elected deputy in re-elections to the third call Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, conducted on May 13, 2006.
Later, the issue on the appointment of repeat, new, by-elections conducted to some municipalities for the first time in the Republic of Azerbaijan was put under discussion. It was decided to appoint the above-mentioned elections for October 6, 2006. CEC also approved "Calendar Plan on basic activities and measures for repeat, new by-elections conducted to some municipalities for the first time in the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
Furthermore, CEC adopted decisions on the approval of two instructions concerning the nomination of candidates in Municipal Elections.
At the session, changes were made in the composition of some Constituency Election Commissions.
CEC also considered current issues.
At the CEC session, representatives of the USA embassy, IFES (International Foundation for Election Systems) and mass media also took part.
