Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan (CEC) conducted its session headed by Mr. Mazahir Panahov on 21 November 2009.

At the session, the appeals entered the CEC concerning Municipal Elections appointed to 23 December 2009 were considered. Decision was adopted on sending one of the appeals to the relevant Con.EC for re-consideration. It was decided to extend the investigation period of the other appeals.

By informing the latest condition of registering the candidates to municipality membership, the Commission Chairman stated that 31774 candidates have been registered. 11368 persons out of the registered candidates represent independents and the remaining represent 30 political parties.

 

The candidates nominated by 18 political parties have been registered by Con.ECs.
At the CEC session, current issues were also considered.

At the session, representatives of International Foundation for Election Systems (the USA), National Democracy Institute (the USA) and mass media also took part.
