Next municipal elections have been appointed in Azerbaijan

The Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted the next session chaired by Mr.Mazahir Panahov on November 27, 2024.

The issue of setting the next municipal elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan was discussed at the meeting. Chairman M. Panahov gave detailed information about the requirements of the relevant legislation and drew attention to the relevant draft decision. The next municipal elections were scheduled for January 29, 2025 by the unanimous decision of the commission members. The chairman also said that the elections will be held in 685 municipalities and will cover 118 constituencies.

Then, each part of the "Calendar plan of the main actions and events for the preparation and holding of municipal elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan" was read separately, discussed and approved.

In the meeting, the issue of creating an expert group under the Central Election Commission was also considered in order to investigate complaints about actions (inaction) and decisions that violate the electoral rights of citizens in the upcoming municipal elections, as well as to more effectively ensure the electoral rights of citizens. An expert group consisting of 9 members was established under the Commission. In accordance with the Election Code, the creation of three-person expert groups under the district election commissions was entrusted to the constituency election commissions of the constituencies.

At the meeting of the Commission, in the event that it is necessary to review the issue of registration of candidacy in the municipal elections scheduled for January 29, 2025 at the Central Election Commission, a working group consisting of experts from relevant institutions was established under the Commission to re-verify the correctness of the signatures and other information on the submitted signature sheets, and the Central Election Commission member was appointed head of the working group.

Current issues were also discussed at the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of media outlets.
