Chairman of the Central Election Commission met with the delegation of the Organization of Turkic States
On August 29, 2024 Mr.Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) met with a delegation led by Mr. Omer Kocaman, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), who is visiting the country to monitor the upcoming Elections to the Milli Majlis.
Chairman M.Panahov expressed his satisfaction with the meeting and welcomed the Organization of Turkic States' mission to observe the forthcoming elections. He highlighted that for the first time, the Elections to the Milli Majlis would be held across all sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, ensuring that all participants would have the necessary conditions and opportunities to engage in the electoral process. CEC Chairman also informed that the top-level preparation and conduct of the elections in the territories liberated from occupation had always been focused on and 54 polling stations were created in those areas for more than 42 thousand voters who possess the voting right to implement their constitutional rights.
Mr.Omer Kocaman, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States thanked on behalf of the delegation for the warm reception. He expressed his pleasure in participating as an observer in the Elections to the Milli Majlis and emphasized his commitment to actively monitoring the proceedings. The international observers also showed interest in the preparations made for the upcoming Elections to the Milli Majlis.
CEC Chairman informed on large-scale projects carried out for free and fair conduct of the elections within the atmosphere of transparency. M.Panahov stated that 990 candidates competed in the Elections to the Milli Majlis and all of them had been fully facilitated to hold independent pre-election campaign in accordance with the requirements of legislation. He also emphasized that the observation of the elections would be joined by more than 600 international and more than 112 thousand local observers, meanwhile, webcams had been installed in 1000 polling stations which covered the whole geography of the country to monitor the voting day processes directly and incessantly without any requirement of registration. The Commission Chairman also noted that the political parties and civil society institutions showed specific activity in the observation of elections and joined the monitoring of the processes with their large number of observers.
The delegation members who thanked for broad information wished success to CEC in the forthcoming elections and hope for the elections to be sufficient and successful for the people.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views and discussed various issues related to the election process.
