Central Election Commission appointed early Presidential Elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted a session chaired by Mr. Mazahir Panahov on December 8, 2023. Firstly, CEC Chairman made the Commission members familiar with the Order by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the announcement of early Presidential Elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Later, the issue on the appointment of the early Presidential Elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan was discussed and to ensure the relevant part of the Order, it was decided to appoint the elections to February 7, 2024.
During the session, the Commission approved the Calendar Plan which contains necessary issues for the election stakeholders to implement basic activities and measures implied in the legislation subsequently and efficiently for the conduct of elections, to render methodical assistance to them and to increase the efficiency of the activities in the election process.
The issue on the establishment of the Expert Group of CEC to ensure the investigation of the complaints against the actions (inactions) violating citizens’ election rights in the foregoing elections was also considered and Expert Group consisting of 9 persons was established by the Commission decision at the session. Constituency Election Commissions (Con.ECs) were commissioned with the establishment of Expert Groups consisting of 3 persons under Con.ECs no later than the timeframe as implied in the legislation.
By the CEC decision, Working Group consisting of specialists of the relevant state institutions was established to check the accuracy of the signatures in signature sheets and the information included in other election documents submitted for the registration of candidates in the early Presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a Commission member was appointed head of the Group.
Current issues were also considered at the session attended by the representatives of diplomatic corps of foreign countries and international organizations, as well as, media outlets.
