On May 6, Mr. Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman met with Mr.Alexander Gessel, Director of the Political Affairs Directorate of Council of Europe.

After greeting the visitors, Mr. Mazahir Panahov expressed his gratitude for this meeting and talked about the long-term efficient relationship between the Commission and respective international organizations, as well as, the Council of Europe. He also emphasized on the significance of relationship between theCEC and leading international organizations. The successes obtained in various election-related fields and the practice of elections has been further developed and reached its current level at the result of co-operation with the Council of Europe and other international organizations.

Mr.Alexander Gessel, Director of the Political Affairs Directorate of Council of Europe expressed his thankfulness for warm welcome by CEC. He interested in the activities and steps to be carried out for further improvement of election practice, update of voters’ lists and financial reports of political parties.

Mr. Mazahir Panahov responded to the questions of the guests and gave information on the electoral system of the country, activities related to updating voters’ lists and submission of financial reports of political parties to the CEC. He also rendered into attention best practices achieved in the elections held in the country in recent years.

The delegation of Council of Europe thanked CEC Chairman for the meeting and comprehensive information.

During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the perspectives of future cooperation in various fields and the issues of mutual interest.
