On September 21, 2016 Mr. Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman met with Mr. Robert Cekuta, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan.

After the welcome of the visitor, Mr. Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman expressed his gratitude of the meeting.

Mr. Robert Cekuta, US Ambassador expressed his thankfulness for the warm welcome, emphasized his appreciation of the close cooperation with the Central Election Commission and was interested about the activities to be implemented for the nationwide voting (referendum) to be held on September 26, 2016.

Chairman Mr. Mazahir Panahov stated that CEC had always been open to the partnership with international organizations and this relationship played an important role in the current development of the election and referendum practice and the attained improvements. Having responded to the visitor’s questions, Mr. Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman inter alia, underlined the inclusive and democratic atmosphere for top-level organization and conduct of free, fair and transparent referendum. He also informed on the election (referendum) legislation, activity principles of election commissions and the broad-scale projects carried out to ensure citizens’ rights to participate in referendum more efficiently.

During the meeting they shared opinions on the issues of mutual interest and potential perspectives of the cooperation between the organizations.
