Co-rapporteurs of PACE Monitoring Committee visited the Central Election Commission

On June 17, 2016 Mr.Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) met with Mr.Cezar Florin Preda and Mr.Stefan Schennach, co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Mr.Alain Destexhe, Belgian senator, chairman of PACE Committee and rapporteur on human rights in Azerbaijan.

Having welcomed the delegation, Mr.Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman expressed his gratitude of the meeting and spoke about the long-term efficient relationship of CEC with the Council of Europe, as well as its different bodies. Chairman also informed that mutual effective cooperation of the organization led by him with competent international organizations has always been focused on and carrying on this relationship in various election-related fields plays an essential role in improving the election practice. The partnership with international organizations and research of the developed global practice are of vital importance to the current development of the electoral system in Azerbaijan.

The visitors thanked for warm greeting and inquired about the steps put for the free and fair conduct of the repeat Elections to the Milli Majlis on Aghdash Con.EC # 90 where they will observe the activities undertaken for improving the election practice in the country and all the processes on June 18, 2016. Mr.Mazahir Panahov responded to the delegation’s questions thoroughly and informed them on the election system and the election legislation of the country, also the projects carried out to ensure citizens’ active and passive suffrage effectively in the repeat Elections to the Milli Majlsi on Aghdash Con.EC # 90.

The views on other issues of mutual interest were also shared during the meeting.
