Central Election Commission conducted the first session in new membership

Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted the first session in new membership on April 15, 2016.

Chairman, deputy chairman and two secretaries of the organization were elected at the session attended by Ziyafat Asgarov, first Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis and Shafa Mirzayev, Head of Parliamentary Apparatus,.

Firstly, the Sons of the Motherland who became martyrs in avoid of the sabotage of the Armenian armed forces in the beginnings of April were commemorated during the event.

Having reminded on the approval of the new membership of the Central Election Commission by the Milli Majlis on April 15, 2016, Ziyafat Asgarov said:” Pursuant to the Election Code, chairman, deputy chairman and secretaries of the Central Election Commission shall be elected today. The person to head the session shall be determined in compliance with the Article 19 of the Election Code. As to that Article, the eldest member of CEC shall head the session”.

Later, Shaitdin Aliyev, eldest member of CEC declared open the first session in new membership.

Afterwards, the election of CEC chairman, deputy chairman and secretaries was held by open voting.

Mazahir Panahov was unanimously elected CEC Chairman.

Natig Mammadov was elected Deputy Chairman, Arifa Mukhtarova – CEC Secretary representing independent deputies in the Milli Majlis and Mikayil Rahimov-CEC Secretary representing the political parties constituting minority in the Parliament.

Mazahir Panahov expressed his gratitude to all the members of the Milli Majlis for the respect to the new membership of CEC and stated that the Commission would undertake all necessary activities in its further functioning to conduct transparent and democratic elections in the country. Having told about the attentiveness of Mr.Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to election commissions, Mazahir Panahov mentioned that due to enduring care of the head of the state, lower election commissions were fully facilitated to function in comply with the election law. CEC Chairman said: ”We should do our best to prove this confidence shown to us by head of the state in our activity. To this aim, we carry great responsibility”.

Later, Ziyafat Asgarov, first Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis underlined that elections are causative political and legal event in every country. The Central Election Commission is the most responsible for the elections held in the country. Past years showed that CEC had coped with its duty very successfully and possessed enough experience in that field. CEC played a great role in the conduct of transparent and democratic elections in line with international standards in the country. Ziyafat Asgarov informed with certainty that this membership would ensure the successful conduct of elections in the country.

Shafa Mirzayev, Head of the Milli Majlis Apparatus congratulated CEC Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretaries for their election. "Practice and progress of CEC for the period of more than 20 years has been acquired before every of us. The latest Parliamentary Elections proved that elections were held under transparent and democratic atmosphere in Azerbaijan. Both local and international observers especially emphasized the work and quality of the functioning of the commission members”, - Shafa Mirzayev stated.
