Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted session

The Central Election Commission conducted the next session chaired by Mr.Mazahir Panahov on August 29, 2015. Firstly, CEC Chairman made the Commission members familiar with the Order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the appointment of the Elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and informed that the fifth call Elections to the Milli Majlis were appointed to November 1, 2015.

It was also mentioned that in view of the Elections to the Milli Majlis to be held in 2015, which was an important event in the history of the country, the Central Election Commission started to carry out broad activities from the beginnings of the year to ensure citizens’ constitutional rights to elect and to be elected and also, to conduct free and fair elections. Thus, all-embracing projects were implemented to advance the important stages of the election process – update of the voters’ lists and development of normative and legal framework, also regular steps were put for improving working conditions and material and technical supply of lower election commissions.

Later, "Calendar Plan for the basic activities and measures on the preparation and conduct of the fifth call Elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was adopted at the session to undertake the activities implied in the election legislation regularly and effectively, to render methodical assistance to election stakeholders and simplify their activity in the election process.

The issue on the establishment of Expert Group under the Central Election Commission to ensure the investigation of the complaints against actions (lack of action) and decisions violating election rights and to guarantee citizens’ election rights more effectively was also reviewed during the session. By CEC decision, Expert Group of 9 persons was established under the Central Election Commission. And Constituency Election Commissions were commissioned with the formation of Expert Groups of 3 persons under Con.ECs no later than the time period defined in the legislation.

At the session of the Commission, Working Group of specialists from relevant state bodies was established to check the accuracy of the information included in signature sheets and other attached documents for the candidate registration and a member of the Commission was appointed a head of the Group regarding the fifth call Elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Current issues were also reviewed at the session attended by the representatives of mass media.
