Regional seminars dedicated to the jurisdiction of election disputes started within the frame of joint project of the Central Election Commission (CEC) with the Supreme Court and courts of appeal.

The main goal of implementing the project is to raise awareness of the relevant courts and Con.ECs in the field of election dispute resolution, to increase the effectiveness of the undertaken activities in this regard and to ensure citizens’ election rights more efficiently, along with all steps put for arranging and holding the Elections to the Milli Majlis, appointed to February 9, 2020 freely and fairly.

The opening and first seminar-conference held in Boulevard Hotel of Baku on January 22, 2020 was opened with the introductory speech of Mr.Mazahir Panahov, CEC Chairman. Later, Khagani Mammadov, Judge of the Supreme Court, Iman Naghiyev, Chair of Baku Court of Appeal and Saadet Bektashi, Chair of Sumgayit Court of Appeal made speech at the seminar-conference.

After the introductory speech was made as in accordance with the event agenda, the representatives of CEC, Supreme Court and Baku Court of Appeal presented on "The rules for filing appeals and complaints on the violation of citizens’ election rights and their investigation in the Elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, application of the legislation by courts regarding the protection of the election rightin the Elections to the Milli Majlis” and "Court execution of the activities on legal remedy of election right” and other speeches on election dispute resolution were heard at the seminar-conference.

At the end of the event attended by CEC members, employees of the relevant structural bodies of the CEC Secretariat, judges of regional courts of appeal and chairpersons of Con.ECs, many actual discussions on the issues of court jurisdiction of the complaints on the violation of the election right were held and the questions interesting to the participants were replied to.

It should be noted that the regional seminar-conferences dedicated to election dispute resolution, are scheduled to be held simultaneously in Ganja, Nakhchivan and Shaki on January 24, 2020, covering relevant courts and Con.ECs.
